Isaac (Seeking Bride)
Isaac, whose name means "he laughs," was the only son of Abraham and Sarah. God blessed Isaac, and Isaac became a wealthy man. He was a man of peace, and when the jealous Philistines filled up his wells, he avoided conflict. Instead of fighting them, he just moved and dug new wells. Isaac died at the age of 180 years, after Jacob had returned with his family from Mesopotamia.

Rebekah (at the Well)
When Isaac's wife Rebekah became pregnant with twins, she prayed about the babies struggling within her womb. God revealed to her that the twins would become two rival nations and the older of the twins would serve the younger. Instead of trusting God, she began to scheme for her favorite son, Jacob. When she died, she was buried in the cave of Machpelah.

Abraham
Dia kemudiannya melahirkan anak lelakinya Ishak ketika dia berumur 90 tahun, 25 tahun selepas Janji Tuhan.

Why did Abraham send his servant?
After the death of Sarah, Abraham called for his oldest servant, the man in charge of his household. “Take an oath by putting your hand under my thigh. Swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not allow my son to marry one of these local Canaanite women. Go instead to my homeland, to my relatives, and find a wife there for my son Isaac.” Abraham knew that the local Canannites were involved in various immoral practices, including sexual immorality. Among all the religious rituals of Palestine, one of the most evil practices was human sacrifice -- and in particular the burnt offering of children. Archaeological discoveries and ancient texts show the charred skeletons of children that have been discovered together at Gezer, Ta’anach, and Megiddo in Palestine. Later, the prophet Jeremiah spoke of how that Israelites had built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in fire as offerings to Baal (Jeremiah 19:5). Abraham did not want his son to intermarry with the daughters of people and be influenced by their way.

What does the faithfulness of Abraham's servant teach us?
It teaches us that "If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won't be honest with greater responsibilities" (Luke 16:10). Abraham's servant was faithful, and so he was placed in charge of the household. Then Abraham entrusted him with the most important assignment -- seeking a wife for his son, Isaac. Abraham's servant demonstrated his faithfulness not only to his master, but also to God. In the pursuit of a wife for Isaac, the servant placed his trust in God and asked for his help. God heard his prayer and directed him to Rebekah. We can learn much of faithfulness from this servant of Abraham, and this servant of God.

What does Abraham's servant teach us about prayer?
Throughout the Scripture we see stories of people who cried out to the Lord for help -- and how God heard and answered the prayers of the righteous. In this story we see that the servant of Abraham cried out to God for help in finding the wife for Isaac: ""O Lord, God of my master, Abraham," he prayed. "Please give me success today, and show unfailing love to my master, Abraham. See, I am standing here beside this spring, and the young women of the town are coming out to draw water. This is my request. I will ask one of them, ‘Please give me a drink from your jug.’ If she says, ‘Yes, have a drink, and I will water your camels, too!’—let her be the one you have selected as Isaac’s wife. This is how I will know that you have shown unfailing love to my master." (Genesis 24:12)
Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her water jug and did exactly what he prayed.
Abraham's servant bowed low and worshiped the Lord. “Praise the Lord, the God of my master, Abraham,” he said. “The Lord has shown unfailing love and faithfulness to my master, for he has led me straight to my master’s relatives.” Just as God answered the prayer of the righteous servant of Abraham, He will hear and answer our prayers if we serve Him with humility and walk in His ways.

What can we learn of God's guidance from Abraham's servant?
Abraham's servant asked God to direct him to the woman who was to be the wife for Isaac. God was faithful to answer his prayer -- just as He will be faithful to lead you if you ask Him and follow in His ways. The writer of Hebrews tells us that we can train our ear to recognize the voice of God above all the noise. "But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil" (Hebrews 5:14). It is by practicing, by reason of use, that we are able to discern whether what we hear is of God, our flesh, or the Devil.
Isaiah 30:21 says, "Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left."
So God will speak, and you can hear His voice, but you must be careful -- especially when you are a young Christian -- that you objectively confirm that you are following the Holy Spirit and not another voice. Our own flesh can scream pretty loud (especially when we are under pressure, or we want something very badly). And the Devil is the father of lies -- he is the great deceiver.
The bottom line is that big decisions require a lot of prayer. In other words, as we humble ourselves before the Lord, seek His guidance in our lives, the Good Shepherd will be faithful to lead us, "…in paths of righteousness for His name's sake" (Psalm 23:3) -- just as he guided Abraham's servant when he cried out for help in prayer.

What can we learn of marriage from Isaac and Rebekah?
There are several lessons to be learned from this story regarding godly marriage. First, Abraham insisted that his servant find a wife for Isaac from within his own family. Today, God calls believer to not be yoked in marriage to an unbeliever (2 Corinthians 6:14). Next we see that Abraham's servant sought the Lord in prayer to find the right mate for Isaac. In every decision we must seek the will of our Heavenly Father in prayer, as Jesus taught us to declare, "Your Kingdom come, your will be done..." (Matthew 6:10). Finally, we see that Isaac took Rebekah into his home and she comforted him after the loss of his mother, Sarah. God calls a man and a woman together to love, comfort, and protect each other. Marriage is a symbol of the love between Christ and His Church (Ephesians 5:32).
